Lisa Alexis

Mayor LaToya Cantrell appointed Lisa Alexis as Director of the Office of Cultural Economy in January of this year, immediately prior to the beginning of Carnival. Alexis, a native of New Orleans who grew up in Gentilly, hit the ground running and led her team through a successful first Carnival season for the Cantrell administration. Now with festival season on the horizon, the City of New Orleans is gearing up to welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors who will indulge in all that New Orleans has to offer, not the least of which is culture, while celebrating our local residents and workers--- the people who help to make it all possible.

"As a City, it is of vital importance that we invest in our cultural industries. From our creative culinary chefs, to our Mardi Gras Indians, to our world-class musicians --  the culture of New Orleans resonates across the globe, “ said Mayor Cantrell. “We have a responsibility to preserve, invest in, and promote this cultural treasure and the men,  women and children who create it. That is what I have charged our Office of Cultural Economy with doing, and I am proud to have Lisa Alexis at the helm. She gets it."

"I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Director of the Office of Cultural Economy. I am dedicated to uplifting our unique culture, and to securing a better quality of life for our Culture Bearers,” said Lisa Alexis. “With Mardi Gras behind us, Festival and Fine Art season is in full bloom, with countless sights and venues to enjoy. Thousands from near and far will descend upon the city to ignite their senses; however, have we ignited the potential within our Culture Bearers to live and support their lives through the passion they so love? This is the charge of Cultural Economy and we are being intentional in striking the right chord.”
