MAYOR CANTRELL ISSUES STATEMENT ON CELEBRATION OF ROSH HASHANAH

09/10/2018

Mayor LaToya Cantrell today issued the following statement, in celebration of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year:

"On behalf of the City of New Orleans, I join our Jewish community in celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the beginning of the New Year for members of the Jewish faith and culture.

"People of all faiths can draw inspiration from this time of reflection and renewal. As your Mayor, I am personally reminded of humanity’s shared responsibility to do the work of “tikkun olam,” or “repairing the world.” In celebrating the coming of a new year, we remember our responsibility to serve one another.

"New Orleans has one of the oldest Jewish communities in the South, and our City’s world-famous culture has been deeply enriched by its contributions. We wish you all a sweet New Year filled with health and happiness for you and your family. L’shanah Tovah!"
